Bengaluru: Canara Bank, a leading public sector bank in India, organised a Swachhata cleanliness drive under the “Ek Din Ek Ghanta Ek Saath” initiative, a flagship programme of the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Mission. The event is hosted every year during the second week of September, and culminates on Gandhi Jayanti – October 2, which is also observed as Swachh Bharat Diwas.
Accordingly, Canara Bank conducted a shramdan (volunteering) activity at Banashankari II Stage, Bengaluru. The event saw active participation from Bank employees, who worked together to clean public spaces, collect waste, and promote awareness about the importance of cleanliness. The employees, along with the local public, joined the initiative and cleaned the surrounding area of about 1 km for one hour. The initiative was well-received by the community, with many locals participating and appreciating the bank’s efforts. The Safai Mitras were thanked and felicitated for their commitment to cleanliness.
The MD & CEO of the Bank, Satyanarayana Raju, and the Bank’s top management actively participated in the drive. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “At Canara Bank, we believe in giving back to the community and contributing to the nation’s development. Our participation in the ‘Ek Din Ek Ghanta Ek Saath’ initiative is a testament to our commitment to social responsibility and sustainability. The Swachhata drive is part of the Bank’s broader CSR initiatives, which focus on promoting environmental sustainability, community development, and social welfare. Through this initiative, Canara Bank aims to not only contribute to the cleanliness of the environment but also raise awareness about the importance of hygiene and sanitation among the community.
