Bengaluru, February 4, 2018: A single step with a purpose, it is said, is worth a thousand aimless strides. Reflecting this thought, and in line with its endeavour to work towards bridging the gap of inequality between the more fortunate amongst us and the marginalised, Tirun Travel Marketing, the exclusive India representative of Royal Caribbean Cruises, participated in Oxfam India’s global flagship fundraising event, Oxfam Trailwalker. A team of four of its nominated employees covered a distance of 100 Kms each, in a timespan of just 48 hours! The event which took place in Bengaluru from February 2nd to 4th 2018, was organised by Oxfam India as a resistance to the crippling menace of social inequality, and aims to support initiatives in the areas of education, gender justice, and equality and so on, in six of India’s poorest States. The event saw over 300 teams came together for a cause.
Ritu Malhotra, Akash Saha, Richa Gupta and Mahesh Kumara Dadlani, four of Tirun’s employees undertook this extremely challenging task which saw them walk through the night, with little or no sleep until they each reached their destination of 100 kms. The event had a minimum participatory fundraising sum of Rs 80,000/-, to which Tirun exceeded by raising more than one lakh rupees. The funds have been raised to initiate strong steps towards providing equal opportunities to every section of the society. Support for the participants poured in from all quarters. These funds will go a long way in helping Oxfam bridge the yawning gap of unequal distribution of resources and accessibility that plagues our country.
Commenting on the event, Mrs. Ratna Chadha, Chief Executive, Tirun Travel Marketing said, “The Oxfam India Trailwalker is a huge challenge that demands participants to push the limits of their physical and mental capabilities. Each and every member of the Tirun family is extremely proud of the fact that these members have stepped up to the task, quite literally. It is heartening to see how they brought forth the best elements of Tirun’s culture to the trail: leading by example, dealing with tough challenges, team work and contributing to a higher objective; in this case, making an impact that matters to the society.”
