Hyderabad, October 27, 2020: Welspun Foundation for Health & Knowledge, the Corporate Social Value arm of Welspun Group, has recently revealed details of the aid the company provided to local communities under its Rural Connect Programme amidst the ongoing pandemic. The organisation drove the programme from Welspun Foundation’s Akankshita Centre in Nagarguda Village, where it aimed to secure and bolster livelihood opportunities for the women in the region while enabling its overall development. Leading the cause to prevent the further spread of COVID-19, Welspun Flooring has been actively involved in increasing awareness amongst locals while distributing necessary items in the surrounding villages of Chandanvelli, Hayathabad, Machanpalli, Rudraram, and Nagarguda.
As part of the Rural Connect Programme, Akankshita Centre manufactured over 50,000 masks that were distributed in Chandanvelli, Machanpalli, and Hayathabad. Welspun extended support to Corona Warriors at the frontline of India’s battle against the pandemic. The brand provided the local police departments with amenities such as masks and other essentials to help protect them against the contagion’s spread. Akanksha Centre also bolstered the fight against COVID-19 by producing full-cover PPEs for the medical professionals working tirelessly in the region. It also provided PPE kits containing face shields, goggles, face masks, gloves, sanitiser to the Primary Health Care staffs of Chandanvelli and Shabad.
Speaking about the programme, Mahesh Shah, CEO – Domestic Business, Welspun Flooring Limited, commented, “At Welspun, with inclusive growth as one of our core value that guides our actions, taking care of our communities has always been one of our prime focus. As a responsible corporate, we came forward to help the country fight against COVID-19 at the grassroots level by distributing necessary items like masks and PPE kits. The aid that we supplied to the people in the region around our manufacturing plant, Akankshita Centre, vividly demonstrates our Group’s community-centric ethos.”
The company led the awareness-building drive by distributing pamphlets in Telugu for the benefit of the local people. The primary objective was to help them understand the necessary precautions and care they need to exercise in the face of the viral outbreak. The company also distributed Ayurveda immunity boosters to the village members in Chandanvelli, Machanpalli, and Hayathabad. The team provided the residents with sodium hypochlorite and bleaching powder bags to maintain hygiene and keep their surroundings sanitised. Additionally, sanitisers, rubber gloves and masks were distributed to the sanitation workers responsible for keeping the region disinfected.
